The Cracked Door Conference 2011 - Grenada: Faith Science - The Invisible World

The Cracked Door Conference 2011 - Grenada

Faith Science: Where Faith and the Scientific Method Collide
Day One: The Invisible World

1. What is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 and Romans 10:17 - Biblical faith is "complete trust in the invisible evidence provided by the Word of God confirmed by commensurate action."

2. An Introduction to The Invisible World

Colossians 1:15-17 - God created both the visible and invisible worlds
2 Corinthians 4:18 - The visible world is temporary while the invisible world is eternal

Excerpt from Faith Science
Biblical faith is "complete trust in the invisible evidence provided by the Word of God confirmed by commensurate action." Based on the Scriptures, there is an invisible world that exists simultaneously with the visible world we live in. In that world are thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Thus, if we believe the Word of God, we cannot ignore it. In the same way that Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, what we see in our lives are visible images of what's happening in the invisible world. Even if we choose not to acknowledge it, our lives are directly affected by what we cannot see with our natural eyes.

3. Case Study #1 - Elisha and his servant

2 Kings 6:15 - Elisha's awareness of the invisible world around him gave him confidence in the face of great odds. In contrast, his servant could only see with his physical eyes and was terrified.

4. Case Study #2 - Daniel

Daniel 10:1-9 - Daniel's intercession

Excerpt from Faith Science
For three full weeks, Daniel went through an intense season of fasting and prayer. In a fascinating display of discipline, he put his natural desires under subjection and focused his life on deep spiritual intercession. Fortunately, the hierarchy of heaven noticed, and God sent an angel with a message that blows this teaching on the invisible world wide open.

Daniel 10:10-14, 20 - The battle lines were drawn in heaven.

Excerpt from Faith Science
Carefully observe the name of the spirit that opposed the angel of God, because it will become very important as we move along. Daniel's vision reveals so much wisdom that it can change how we approach the spirit realm altogether. The angel asserted that even while he spoke with Daniel, Michael the archangel was still fighting against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. The heavenly war was far from over, and once he was done with delivering his message he had to return to the battlefield.

Nonetheless, the hidden message in this portion of Scripture begins in verse twenty. Since there is no time in the spirit, the angel knew exactly what would happen after they were finished with the territorial spirit over Persia. An intense battle with the territorial spirit over Greece would follow. Why is that so significant? I'll show you.

Daniel 11:1-2 - Identical battle lines were drawn on earth.

Excerpt from Faith Science
The spiritual battle that was taking place in heaven was a precursor to the physical battle that was coming. In the spirit realm, God's angels were already in the middle of a heated fight with the fallen angel assigned to Persia. Soon after, the Grecian fallen angel was on his way to the battle. In the natural realm, after the reign of Cyrus, the current king of Persia, three more Persian kings were rising to power. Then a war with the kingdom of Greece was next on the schedule. What looked like random wars between opposing earthly kingdoms was really a reflection of the spiritual war. The real war was invisible and was being fought between God's angels and the spirits behind these kingdoms.

That is so important for us to understand because in these few verses dwells the entirety of spiritual warfare and its effects in the natural realm. While Daniel prayed, angels were fighting for the people of Israel. They were being physically controlled by the Persian kingdom on earth but may not have been aware of the spiritual consequences. The territorial spirit in control of the Persian kingdom used that authority to resist Daniel's prayers from being answered. Once he was defeated by the angels in heaven and the Greek spirit took over, it was only a matter of time before the Persian kingdom on earth lost its power over God's people to the Greeks. So many conclusions can be drawn from that, but I'll leave it right there. The mystery revealed here is the direct connection between the invisible and visible realms.

5. The Connection Between the Visible and Invisible Worlds

2 Corinthians 5:16-17 - Don't evaluate people from a human point of view
Ephesians 6:10-12 - What we see in the natural is just a reflection of the spiritual battle taking place for our lives.

It doesn't matter what it is. If you face trouble on earth, take the battle into the spirit realm and you will win. Keep it in the natural realm and you will struggle.

6. Pray about everything

Ephesians 6:18, Luke 18:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray all the time about everything.

Excerpt from Faith Science
Why must we always pray? It's our connection to the invisible world. We cannot see it with our natural eyes, so we can't do anything about it with our natural strength. However, we have to do something because what happens in it directly affects our lives. When we don't pray, life happens to us and we have to respond to circumstances after they take place. Yet, when we pray we determine what happens in our lives. God gives us the authority to plug into his eternal kingdom and change our future.

Considering what was just discussed, the idea of the spiritual armor of God should make a little more sense. It's more important than any natural armor because we can fight a spiritual battle and determine the outcome of a war in the earth before it even starts. The enemies we face on earth are driven and directed by our spiritual enemies. Until we defeat the spirits behind them, we will exhaust ourselves fighting battles that will never end.

When we fight against people, the spirits just leave the people we defeat and get behind others. It will go on and on just like that until we follow the advice of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 and stop seeing people from a human point of view. Our fight is not with flesh and blood but with the spirits that rule invisible kingdoms that control the kingdoms we can see. Before we start fighting we should have our spiritual armor on.

Faith Science - Private Author's Reception

Do you know that cloning, synthetic biology, entropy and Ice Ages can be traced to The Bible? Can the discovery of the Higgs Boson, or God Particle, by scientists in CERN or FERMILAB help us perceive the spirit realm? In Faith Science, author Donnell Duncan exposes scientific mysteries hidden within scriptures then employs the scientific method to approach the study of faith. In this radical departure from common knowledge, Duncan seamlessly blends scientific research and scriptural truth. Are you ready for the impact caused by this collision between faith and The Scientific Method? If so, prepare for the ride of your life.

“Mr. Duncan meticulously analyzes the scientific process and shows how it can be effectively used to understand Christian faith. I came away with a stronger understanding of how my scientific background can further strengthen my relationship with God.”

Faith Science - Athiests and Agnostics Parading As Scientists

Mr. Duncan is a theologian, not a scientist. Rather than spend his time on academic pursuits, Duncan spends his time (by his own admission: “twenty-four hours a day”) on“spreading the gospel.”
—Arthur Ide, PhD, MD, DA: October 6, 2005, responding to comments by Donnell Duncan on the article “Drawing a Line in the Academic Sand” on Inside Higher Ed.

I guess I pushed this man over the edge when I said the following in
a heated debate that day: “Intelligent design is definitely a sketchy
issue, but some of the foundational principles of evolution, though
widely accepted, are also highly debatable. A university is the one
place where we hope students can develop into independent thinkers.
If they cannot even discuss the validity of a contentious scientific
theory with the faculty in a bio-physical science class, then some of
that independence is lost. It is unfortunate that a public university
administration chooses to be one sided instead of allowing competing
theories fair exposure.”

The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could
only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent
and powerful Being.
—Sir Isaac Newton (1642–1727), Principia (1687)

Science and theology are not mutually exclusive. Sir Isaac Newton
is considered to be one of the most prominent physicists, mathematicians, astronomers, chemists, and theologians. Newton’s laws of
motion are the foundational principles for classical mechanics. He
also wrote the book “Observations upon the Prophecies of Daniel
and the Apocalypse of St. John.” If I were to respond with the same
logic as those secular scientists who think Christians can’t also be
scientists, I would say, “These guys are agnostics and atheists; they
are not scientists.”

Faith Science - Love Brings Faith To Life

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
avails anything, but faith working through love.
Galatians 5:6 nkjv

In much the same way that unbelief kills faith, love has the opposite
effect. When Jesus was moved with compassion in Matthew
14:14, he healed every sick person. Then in the following verses he
miraculously multiplied food to feed all who were following him at
the time. The Bible says in 1 John 4:18 that perfect love removes fear,
which is the root of unbelief. A revelation of God’s love removes the
limitations placed on what your faith can do. It causes you to believe
the unbelievable and brings the impossible to life. Because of love, a
mother has the faith to lift up a car to save the life of her child who’s
trapped underneath. Because of love, a father has the faith to pray
for his son with all of his heart and see deliverance. When there is
love, people start believing God for the impossible.

Let’s look at this from another perspective. If you believe that I
love you, you’ll have faith in what I say to you. When I believed the
love of God, I had the faith to receive his salvation. Thus, my belief
in his love now empowers my faith in his healing, deliverance, and
provision. In general, his love is the catalyst for my faith in his Word.
I’m sure that he loves me, so I believe what he says and don’t struggle
with living a life that reflects that. He must bring his Word to pass
in my life because he promised it.

Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there
is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the
end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are
not yet done, Saying, “My counsel shall stand, And I will do all
My pleasure,” Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man who
executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken
it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.
Isaiah 46:9–11 nkjv

I trust God’s Word because I trust God’s love. Keeping that in mind,
nothing in his Word is beyond belief for me. What about you? Why
do you struggle to believe what you read in God’s Word? Maybe it’s
because you struggle to believe his love for you. Settle it today with
1 John 4:8! God is love, so it’s inconceivable that his love can have
limits. Nothing you can or cannot do can stop his love, so you’re better
off accepting the inevitable. He loves you, and if you can believe
that, your faith in His Word will be seen. Since nothing can separate
us from God’s love, according to Romans 8:37–39, let nothing separate
you from your faith.

Faith Science - Unbelief Kills Faith

So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure
him. Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse
generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear
with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon,
and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very
hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why
could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your
unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard
seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’
and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 17:16–20 nkjv

Can you believe that the same disciples who had enough faith in
Jesus to leave everything behind and follow him hit a roadblock
when it came to using their faith to change certain things? Isn’t
that the same problem with us today? Many of us have the faith to
receive salvation, but from that point we struggle to progress. Jesus
lamented the faithlessness of his generation, so if he was on the
earth today he would surely lament over us also.

Why can’t we proficiently cast out demons? Because of our unbelief!
Why can’t we lay hands on the sick and consistently see them
recover? Because of our unbelief! Why can’t we speak to nature by
the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and see it obey the word of the
Lord? Because of our unbelief!

Instead of accepting that something is wrong with us, most people
I encounter continue to make excuses for the lack of tangible
power in the Western church. They lie on the Holy Spirit and say
that prophecy ended with John the Baptist. They claim that miracles
are only necessary for people who don’t understand the Scriptures.
They say we’re actually more advanced because of our knowledge,
even though we can’t show physical results. They continue to provide
natural solutions for clearly spiritual issues. They continue in
unbelief and wonder why there is such a big gap between what they
read in the Bible and what they see in their lives.

I refuse to limit myself to what other people believe or don’t
believe. Jesus Christ said, “For assuredly, I say to you, if you have
faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from
here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for
you,” (Matthew 17:20 nkjv). He also said, “If you can believe, all
things are possible to him who believes,” (Mark 9:23, nkjv).

In response to those words, a desperate father in need of healing
for his son with tears in his eyes cried out, “Lord, I believe; help
my unbelief,” (Mark 9:24 nkjv). Now that you’ve heard the same
words, what will your response be today? In John 11:27, Martha’s
belief opened the door for Jesus to raise her brother Lazarus from
the dead. In Mark 9:36, Jairus’ belief opened the door for his daughter
to rise from the dead. All the same, if you can’t believe just like
they did, your unbelief will shut the door on your miracle!

Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables,
that He departed from there. When He had come to His own
country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were
astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and
these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His
mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and
Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did
this Man get all these things?” So they were offended at Him.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except
in his own country and in his own house.” Now He did not do
many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Matthew 13:53–58 nkjv

The Word of the Lord is described in 1 Peter 1:23 as incorruptible
seed. In other words, as an entity of its own, it cannot be destroyed.
In Mark 4:13–20, Jesus explained that the condition of your heart
determines whether or not the incorruptible seed of the Word brings
fruit in your life. One of the most toxic environments possible is a
heart of unbelief. It is so bad that it stopped the power of Jesus from
operating among his people in the town where he grew up. The
same Jesus who could read minds, disappear into the midst of hostile
crowds, heal any sickness, control the weather, walk on water, raise
the dead, and save us from eternal death could not do much in an
environment full of unbelief.

Faith Science - The Mystery of Faith

• What is faith?

Merriam Webster Dictionary’s definition of the word faith is:
1. a) Allegiance to duty or a person: loyalty
b) (1) Fidelity to one’s promises (2): Sincerity of
intentions
2. a) (1): belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) Belief
in the traditional doctrines of a religion
b) (1): firm belief in something for which there is no
proof (2) Complete trust
3. Something that is believed especially with strong
conviction; especially: a system of religious beliefs

A quick glance at the secular definition of faith exposes one reason
why there is rampant confusion about what it really means. When
used in the Bible, the word faith is not “firm belief in something
for which there is no proof.” What is considered as “no proof ” is
described in the Bible as proof that is not naturally visible. The mere
fact that invisible proof is considered irrelevant in secular society
points to a major difference between the kingdom of God and the
system of the world.

The people of the world judge by what they see, but we judge by
the Word of God. Biblical faith is based on the evidence provided in
the Bible. According to 2 Corinthians 4:18, this is more reliable than
what can be seen in the natural. Everything seen in the Bible should
be defined by the Bible. Based on Hebrews 11:1 and Romans 10:17, a
proper definition of biblical faith is “complete trust in the invisible
evidence provided by the Word of God confirmed by commensurate
action.”

• How is faith increased?

The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our
faith.” The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a
mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be
uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you! When
a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does
his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’? No, he says, ‘Prepare
my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you
can eat later.’ And does the master thank the servant for doing
what he was told to do? Of course not. In the same way, when
you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who
have simply done our duty.’”
Luke 17:5–10 nlt

The disciples asked Jesus a simple question, and he gave them an
answer that was about as easy to interpret as other tongues. Why
didn’t he just say, “Do this and you’ll increase your faith”? Let’s now
ask God to show us the message behind this puzzle.

1. The meaning of the mustard seed parable.

The mustard seed story deals directly with the disciples’ request.
Jesus’s point was that if they used the faith they had properly, regardless
of its size, they would have been able to do the great things
they wanted to. Therefore, they didn’t need to ask him for any more.
What they had was enough!

As God’s messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest
in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how
much faith God has given you.
Romans 12:3 nlt

You have some level of faith. God gave you just enough to do what
he called you to do on this earth. However, if you aren’t getting all
that you need done, where is this faith that you already have? We’ll
take a look at that soon.

2. The meaning of the servant parable.

The servant parable is another eye-opener. Jesus said that it’s not
about increasing our faith to make things happen. It’s about doing
what God called us to do because that’s all that should matter. Our
most important search is for his will and not for the faith to manipulate
his hands. We must strive to do what he wants done because
we do not exist apart from that. As a result, once you find out what
God has called you to do at this moment, you will realize that the
measure of faith you have received already is just enough.
Therefore, what is this faith you already have?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by
the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made
of things which do appear.
Hebrews 11:1–3 kjv

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of
God.
Romans 10:17 kjv

Your faith comes from the Word of God, which is the spiritual material
you need. Your belief in God’s Word is all the faith you need.
The more of the Word of God you feed yourself, the more effective
your faith becomes. Since we have access to the same Bible, we have
access to the same amount of faith. Still, you get out of faith what
you put into it. If you want your faith to be stronger and more effective,
you must feed it with more of the Word of God.

Faith Science - Faith To See The Invisible

The Chaldeans answered the king, and said, “There is not a man
on earth who can tell the king’s matter; therefore no king, lord,
or ruler has ever asked such things of any magician, astrologer, or
Chaldean. It is a difficult thing that the king requests, and there
is no other who can tell it to the king except the gods, whose
dwelling is not with flesh.” For this reason the king was angry
and very furious, and gave the command to destroy all the wise
men of Babylon. So the decree went out, and they began killing
the wise men; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to
kill them. Then with counsel and wisdom Daniel answered
Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to
kill the wise men of Babylon; he answered and said to Arioch
the king’s captain, “Why is the decree from the king so urgent?”
Then Arioch made the decision known to Daniel. So Daniel
went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell
the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house, and
made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
his companions, that they might seek mercies from the God of
heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions
might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then
the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel
blessed the God of heaven.
Daniel 2:10–19 nkjv

I established earlier in this book that the spirit realm is as real as the
natural realm but it’s invisible and mass-less. Identifying the details
of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and its interpretation necessitated spiritual
sensitivity. What the king’s spiritual advisors could not do was
see clearly in the spirit realm. Daniel knew that if he could just get a
glimpse of what God had revealed to Nebuchadnezzar in the dream,
their lives would be saved. He shared it with his three friends, and
they sought the face of God for insight.

In the spirit, the limitations of time and space do not exist. God
said this about himself: “Declaring the end from the beginning, And
from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel
shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’” (Isaiah 46:10 nkjv). God
declared the future through images in a dream and set the stage for
Daniel’s promotion. What kind of wisdom would you have access to
if you approached God in a difficult situation before you ever considered
another option?

Since our hypothesis states that biblical faith is “complete trust
in the invisible evidence provided by the Word of God confirmed by
commensurate action,” Daniel demonstrated his faith by confidently
sharing what God revealed to him with the king. The king expected
him to recount the dream and then explain what it meant, with the
risk of death if he got it wrong. With the only evidence of the king’s
dream being what God showed Daniel in a vision of his own, Daniel
needed faith to survive. After Daniel told the king everything, let’s
see how it turned out.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, prostrate before
Daniel, and commanded that they should present an offering
and incense to him. The king answered Daniel, and said,
“Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a
revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.” Then the
king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he
made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief
administrator over all the wise men of Babylon. Also Daniel
petitioned the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-
Nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat
in the gate of the king.
Daniel 2:46–49 nkjv

Daniel’s faith led to instant promotion. When people begin to see
life through the eyes of God, they begin to see the invisible. What
might look one way on the surface might be completely different
underneath, and the person who always knows that is God. He
knew all along that this situation was designed for their promotion
and the threat of death was just a catalyst for action. Normal
people limit themselves to what their natural senses can perceive.
In contrast, God has a plan for promotion that cannot be perceived
through physical eyes or with carnal understanding.

Like the magicians, astrologers, and Chaldeans discovered, people
who only see through the eyes of reason will draw blanks at some
important times. They may have been able to create an interpretation
of the king’s dream by reason, but they couldn’t deduce its contents
if he didn’t tell it to them. From their perspective, deductive reasoning
could only go so far and no farther. That lack of spiritual insight
almost cost them their lives, while Daniel and his friends received
great promotion. The lesson learned from faith to see the invisible is
that spiritual eyes can see beyond the limits of time and space.

Faith Science - The Faith To Change Matter

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And
this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:4–5 nkjv

On July 28, 2009, the technology headline at LiveScience.com said,
“Scientists Claim New State of Matter Created.” The same headline
then showed up on Yahoo.com the next day. Apparently, X-ray
pulses from a powerful flash laser were concentrated on a spot of
aluminum with a diameter of less than a twentieth of the width of
human hair. For an extremely short period of time, the aluminum
turned transparent because a core electron was removed by the light.

This discovery of transparent aluminum caused Professor Justin
Wark of Oxford University’s department of physics to claim, “What
we have created is a completely new state of matter nobody has seen
before.” These results triggered great excitement and enthusiasm as
researchers worldwide continue in their efforts to understand creation
on a natural level.

The Apostle Paul addressed this issue with the statement, “By
faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of
God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things
which are visible,” (Hebrews 11:3 nkjv). In other words, all that is
visible was originally invisible. Hence, the great feat of the team of
Oxford researchers only reinforced the position of the Bible. Their discovery is as crucial to the scientific community as understanding
Faith Science should be to the body of Christ.

In reference to the discovery, Wark also said, “Transparent aluminum
is just the start. The physical properties of the matter we are
creating are relevant to the conditions inside large planets, and we
also hope that by studying it we can gain a greater understanding of
what is going on during the creation of ‘miniature stars’ created by
high-power laser implosions which may one day allow the power
of nuclear fusion to be harnessed here on Earth.” While scientists
dream of the benefits of nuclear fusion for abundant, cheap energy,
I dream of the benefits of effective Christian faith which overcomes
the world.

Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree
dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him,
“Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For
assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be
removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his
heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will
have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things
you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you
will have them.
Mark 11:20–24 nkjv

If you are full of faith, you can speak to something physical by the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Based on your revelation knowledge
of God’s Word, it’s supposed to change. I believe this with all of my
heart, so I started practicing. Several times while jogging outside,
the rain started falling, but without fail I commanded it to stop and
it obeyed. Maybe it was all by chance, but after consistent results I
can’t help but assume that Jesus was right. In the same way, my confidence
while praying for healing has skyrocketed. I have laid hands
on the sick and they have recovered.

What God has done with this message is stir up the pure faith
that existed in me when I first believed in him and received salvation.
Even though I’ve grown tremendously through the years, my Christian maturity has been tainted by the critical culture of Western
society. Like Thomas, who could not believe in the resurrection
of Jesus even though he had eyewitness reports, we struggle to
believe what we have not seen for ourselves. While reading a book
called The Heavenly Man, I believed the testimony of Yun, a Christian
pastor in China who, by the power of the Holy Spirit, translated
from one location to another. While watching a documentary I also
believed the testimony of a pastor’s wife in Africa who received him
back from the dead after three days.

Why shouldn’t I believe them? Nothing they claimed has not
happened already based on what we see in the Bible. Is it that difficult
to believe the testimonies of people who are still alive and can
provide as much current, documented proof as possible? If not, how
can you believe the accounts of people from thousands of years ago
written in the Bible? For faith exploits to be as reproducible as scientific breakthroughs, we need an understanding of the conditions
under which these events took place. Some understanding will come
from research, but only the Holy Spirit will enable us to comprehend
what happened.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that
you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person
has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as
human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain
would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he
prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to
yield its crops.
James 5:16–18 nlt

If Elijah can pray and change natural laws, so can you. He was just
a human. Nothing but faith separated him from the rest of us. As
you’ve learned in Faith Science, a proper definition of biblical faith
is “complete trust in the invisible evidence provided by the Word
of God confirmed by commensurate action.” If you can wrap your
mind around the truth of biblical faith, your confidence will skyrocket.
Your faith can smash the chains that have held you in bondage. Your faith can kick open the doors that refuse to open for you.

Your faith can change your life forever. Like the Bible says in 1 John
5:4, your faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

Faith Science - The Science of Christian Faith

On November 11, 2009, the headline on CNN.com said, “Huge
$10 billion collider resumes hunt for God particle.” That
article, written by CNN reporter Elizabeth Landau, pushed atomic
and molecular physics to the forefront of popular culture for at least
one day. The story highlights read as follows: “The Large Hadron
Collider (LHC) will circulate a beam around the tunnel within two
weeks. CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) scientists
say an electrical failure caused a major shut-down of the collider
in September 2008. The full scientific program for the LHC
will probably last more than 20 years. The LHC will look for the
Higgs boson, quarks, gluons and other small particles.”

Antoine Lavoisier is commonly referred to as the father of modern
chemistry. In 1789, he formulated the law of conservation of
mass, which in simple terms states that matter is neither created nor
destroyed. This is an approximate physical law that loses its credibility
in terms of mass conservation when physical matter changes
to a form without measurable mass.

Albert Einstein, the most famous theoretical physicist in history,
disproved the conclusions drawn by Lavoisier and took the concept a
step further. His discovery of special relativity and the related equation
of mass-energy equivalence, E=mc2, showed a relationship between
mass and energy. This allows for mass to practically disappear during
a chemical reaction and be changed into mass-less energy.

Withal, this still proved that if energy is considered a type of matter,
the simple interpretation of Lavoisier’s conclusions still applies.
Hence, even though mass in its traditional sense is not always conserved,
matter, whether or not it has physically measurable mass,
always is. Therefore, while things that exist can change form, science
has proven that everything in existence has always been in existence
and will always be in existence.

One part of the Standard Model mentioned in the earlier chapter
“Matter versus Antimatter” which cannot be fully understood by
scientists is how fundamental particles have mass. The most popular
proposal is the Higgs Mechanism, which suggests the role of a particle
called the Higgs Boson. In an article called “Ask the Experts,”
published by Scientific American on October 21, 1999, the following
questions were posed: “What exactly is the Higgs Boson? Have
physicists proved that it really exists?”

Chris Quigg, a researcher in the theoretical physics department
at FERMILAB, said, “Over the next fifteen years, we should begin
to find a real understanding of the origin of mass. The interest lies
not just in the arcana of accelerator experiments but suffuses everything
in the world around us: mass is what determines the range of
forces and sets the scale of all the structures we see in nature.”

Scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research
(CERN) in Geneva along the Franco-Swiss border with the Large
Hadron Collider and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory
(FERMILAB) near Chicago, Illinois, with the Tevatron Collider
have been actively involved in some important research. In an effort
to identify the source of mass, they are currently seeking ways to
definitively isolate the Higgs Boson, or God Particle. According to
the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the Higgs Boson is “a hypothetical
elementary particle that has zero spin and large mass that is required
by some gauge theories to account for the masses of other elementary
particles.”

Therefore, they are attempting to prove what has been accepted
theoretically for a long time. Apparently, elementary particles essentially
have no measurable mass without the Higgs Boson. Thus, the absence or presence of measurable mass does not define the existence
of a particle. Based on this theory, all particles actually exist
apart from mass that can be quantified. If you can understand this
simple fact, it will revolutionize the way you think about everything
in life. We have always known that visibility does not define existence
because many essential elements in life are invisible, like the
air we breathe.

Yet, it was understood that even invisible elements have some
level of infinitesimal mass. Now scientific researchers are out to
prove that particles in existence can be both invisible and massless.
When God created the earth, could it be that he combined
the Higgs Boson with invisible, mass-less particles that were already
in existence? Why not? If that’s what gives a particle its mass, isn’t
every particle in existence essentially mass-less apart from the Higgs
Boson? So when we consider items with mass to be more real than
items without mass, we make as much scientific sense as a person
who concludes that something doesn’t exist because it can’t be seen.

I spent the summer of 2000 working on a cosmology project at
the Berkeley National Laboratory in California with several other
students. The lab was run by University of California Berkeley professor
Dr. George Smoot. We invested our time and other people’s
money in removing rotational noise from the Cosmic Microwave
Background Rotating Polarimeter Experiment (CMB ROPE).
Over several years, with the support of National Aeronautics and
Space Administration (NASA), millions of dollars were spent on
the cosmology projects run by Dr. Smoot.

His amazing discoveries enhanced our understanding of the Cosmic
Microwave Background and provided strong evidence for the big
bang theory. His main research project was called the Cosmic Background
Explorer (COBE), and some estimate its total cost to be $160
million US dollars. It was a smashing success, earning him the 2006
Nobel Prize in physics. Even though it answered many questions
about the origins of the universe, it also left many unanswered. Several
follow-up projects were launched, and I guarantee that this type
of research will continue until scientists run out of money, patience, or time. They will never be able to answer all the possible questions that
arise. Fortunately, that’s why we have the Bible.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by
the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made
of things which do appear.
Hebrews 11:1–3 kjv

Faith Science - A Way of Escape

1 Corinthians 10:13(KJV) - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

I had a fascinating dream last night and when I awoke this morning The Lord spoke to me about it. He said that Faith Science is a way of escape for many people. Many educated Christians become disenchanted with their faith when they discover major conflicts between what they believe and the natural facts laid out before their eyes. They are told that The Biblical account of Creation points to an earth that's at most 100,000 years old yet the scientific fossil record points to millions. They are told that Adam and Eve were the first humans but find out in school that the bones of pre-historic man predates them. They learn about the Ice Ages, dinosaurs and mammoths but can't reconcile this information with the popular interpretation of Biblical history. Then some of them get the bright idea of rejecting their faith. Fortunately, it doesn't have to happen that way and we're here to help.

"Do you know that cloning, synthetic biology, entropy, and the Ice Ages can be traced to the Bible? Can the discovery of the Higgs Boson, or God Particle, by scientists in CERN or FERMILAB help us perceive the spirit realm? In Faith Science, author Donnell Duncan exposes scientific mysteries hidden within scriptures then employs the scientific method to approach the study of faith. In this radical departure from common knowledge, Duncan seamlessly blends scientific research and scriptural truth. Are you ready for the impact caused by this collision between faith and the scientific method? If so, prepare for the ride of your life.

'Mr. Duncan meticulously analyzes the scientific process and shows how it can be effectively used to understand Christian faith. I came away with a stronger understanding of how my scientific background can further strengthen my relationship with God.'

An Introduction to The Gap Theory

On Monday, July 20, 2009, Yahoo News published an article written by Jeanna Bryner entitled, “Comets Killed Ice Age Beasts.” According to the article, the discovery of lonsdaleite nanodiamonds just off the coast of southern California closed the deal. It provided the strongest evidence to date of the catastrophic event long suspected as the cause of extinction of large ice-age animals and the Stone Age group known as Clovis people. Until then, those hexagonal diamonds had only been found in meteorites and impact craters. This was due to the high temperatures and pressures necessary for their formation.

Evidence of arctic life discovered in temperate or tropical areas has caused scientists to point to Ice Ages. Large surfaces of the earth were covered with ice sheets (large continental glaciers) during those time periods. An exhibit on the Ice Ages from the Illinois State Museum shows some interesting facts. On their Web site is the quote, “If a type of animal lives in a certain type of climate now, we may infer that its ancestors lived in that type of climate, too.”

Ice Ages occurred due to changing continental positions, uplift of continental blocks, reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, and changes in the earth’s orbit during four approximate time intervals:

• Late Proterozoic (800 to 600 million years ago),
• Ordovician and Silurian (460 to 430 million years ago)
• Pennsylvanian and Permian (350 to 250 million years
ago)
• Neogene to Quaternary (4 million years ago to present)

As evidenced by the Ice Ages, the general consensus in the international scientific community is that the earth is billions of years old. Theoretically, it makes sense due to the clearly defined strata of the earth and the presence of fossils at varying depths. Experimentally, it makes sense based on carbon dating methods. Fossils used to reconstruct prehistoric animals like mammoths and dinosaurs support this theory. The discovery of human-like bones in the earth’s strata is evidence of the existence of prehistoric man. In addition, the scientific evidence used to support the past occurrence of the Ice Ages is relatively strong.

There is also evidence of a sudden destructive event that caused the end of civilization. Dinosaurs and mammoths did not gradually become extinct but died suddenly. The earth’s strata tell the story of a thriving planet that underwent a catastrophic change. Occasionally, more information like what I just mentioned becomes available concerning what happened. Without getting into specific data, it’s popularly understood that the earth is much older than what we assume from our common understanding of the Bible. Scientists and Christians clash bitterly over this issue without any acceptable resolution.

As a student of geography and physics in high school growing up in a Christian home, I didn’t care to understand why things didn’t match up. When I was in school I agreed with the scientific evidence, and at home I agreed with the biblical evidence. As long as both spheres of my life remained separate, it didn’t matter to me. However, my first degree in applied physics opened the door for me to question my beliefs. Everything changed when I was invited to participate in the 2000 Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California.

The big bang theory formed the foundation of my project, Cosmic Microwave Background Rotating Polarimeter Experiment (CMB ROPE). During one presentation to my peers I was asked to justify my participation in the project even though it contradicted with my Christian beliefs. I told them that I always separated my Christian beliefs from all academic pursuits. That answer satisfied my peers but did not satisfy me. Hence, after almost a decade of searching for answers, this book came to life. The gap theory might be controversial, but at least it’s a valiant attempt to connect science and faith.

Faith Science - The Invisible World

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
Colossians 1:15-17 NLT

Biblical faith is “complete trust in the invisible evidence provided by the Word of God confirmed by commensurate action.” Based on the Scriptures, there is an invisible world that exists simultaneously with the visible world we live in. In that world are thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Thus, if we believe the Word of God, we cannot ignore it. In the same way that Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, what we see in our lives are visible images of what’s happening in the invisible world. Even if we choose not to acknowledge it, our lives are directly affected by what we cannot see with our natural eyes. Now let’s apply this perspective to the following biblical account.

The king of Aram became very upset over this. He called his officers together and demanded, “Which of you is the traitor? Who has been informing the king of Israel of my plans?” “It’s not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!” “Go and find out where he is,” the king commanded, “so I can send troops to seize him.” And the report came back: “Elisha is at Dothan.” So one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city. When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. As the Aramean army advanced toward him, Elisha prayed, “O Lord, please make them blind.” So the Lord struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked.
2 Kings 6:11-18 NLT

When life is seen through the eyes of faith, it is completely different from physical reality. Elisha knew that God’s army was there to protect him, so he had no fear of the Arameans. It didn’t matter to him what his natural eyes could see. As long as God existed, he was safe. His servant, however, was not as confident . He looked up and saw troops, horses, and chariots everywhere, so he responded just like any intelligent human being would. He was panic-stricken. He shared his fears with Elisha, and one of the most amazing revelations in Scripture took place.

Elisha prayed for God to give his servant spiritual vision so he could see into the invisible world. Instantly, his perspective changed. If he thought the Aramean army was impressive, what did he think when he saw the hillside filled with horses and chariots of fire from God’s army? Did they all arrive as soon as the servant’s eyes were opened, or were they already there? Did the fact that they became visible validate their existence? Of course not! The invisible world is real all by itself and can only be seen through the eyes of faith. What happened with Elisha’s servant was necessary for him to believe what Elisha already believed by faith.

Faith Science - The Axe Approach

Ecclesiastes 10:10(NKJV) - If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.

Faith Science is my fourth book and I've learned some things along the way. The first thing I've learned is to never debate atheists about the things of The Lord unless I have to. Why?

Atheists are fools and should be treated as such - Psalm 14:1

They are not in search of truth. They have chosen to reject the truth and have chosen to be victims of their own ignorance. Watch the following video.

God is a Science Teacher

God is a science teacher and the universe is His classroom.

Job 35:9(The Message) - "When times get bad, people cry out for help. They cry for relief from being kicked around, But never give God a thought when things go well, when God puts spontaneous songs in their hearts, When God sets out the entire creation as a science classroom, using birds and beasts to teach wisdom.

God is a science teacher and the universe is His classroom. Hence, it's silly for us to think that we who are merely students of the universe can gain such wisdom that we shake our fists in His direction. He is not impressed by our research. He is not impressed by our analytical ability. He is not impressed by our eloquence. He is not impressed by our passionate pursuit of knowledge. He is God and when it comes to our relationship with Him, the student will never be greater than the teacher.

However, what's really interesting is how people change when their lives turn to crap and everything collapses around them. They go in one of two extreme directions. They either reach out to God or they get extremely bitter toward Him. I believe that this explains both the conditional Christianity of some thinkers and the militant atheism of others. It's not that they don't believe God exists but they want Him to exist in the form that they choose. In other words, they want God to be an idol they create. They want a God of convenience. If God doesn't fit into their box, they won't accept Him.

Continuing in the same vein of my previous blogs let me repeat the quote of the week.

Psalm 53:1(KJV) - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Faith Science - A Big Bang

Faith Science - A Big Bang

2 Peter 3:10(The Message) - But when the Day of God's Judgment does come, it will be unannounced, like a thief. The sky will collapse with a thunderous bang, everything disintegrating in a huge conflagration, earth and all its works exposed to the scrutiny of Judgment.

Sometimes I wonder if we are aware of what's coming. If we really are, we will live with a sense of urgency. Whether or not we believe it, there is a God and He is going to judge us all. His eyes are fixed on each of our lives and He has a standard by which He measures our decisions. It's all fun and games now but one day there will be A Big Bang and He'll drop the hammer. It's our desire in the Faith Science movement to make everyone aware that we can no longer use science as an excuse to not serve God. He made science and it cannot replace Him regardless of what Stephen Hawking says. (see yesterday's blog)

Psalm 95:6-11(NLT) - Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today! The Lord says, “Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah, as they did at Massah in the wilderness. For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw everything I did. For forty years I was angry with them, and I said, 'They are a people whose hearts turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’ So in my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”

God's reaching out today to all of us. He wants our hearts. He wants our worship. He created the universe and everytime we look up we see His awesome splendor. This is His turf and we have no choice but to give Him worship. Today let's glorify God for all He's done. He's worth it.

Faith Science - What is man?

What is man?

Psalm 8:1-9(NLT) - O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies
and all who oppose you. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority— the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents. O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

I sit here in tears writing this blog as I worship The Lord from the depths of my heart. The same God who created the vast universe and orchestrated the intricate details of human DNA is interested in a personal relationship with me. By a mere thought in His consciousness my existence could be nothing but a memory but He chooses to use my life to fulfill His purpose on the earth. What is man that your are mindful of us? What is man that you made us a little lower than yourself. Why did you consider us worthy of glory and honor? Why did you put us in charge of all creation? I bless you Lord from the depths of my heart. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If other human beings choose to discrespect you, there will continue to remain a remnant who will praise you. If the remnant stops, there will still be me.

If God doesn't exist, why did the concept of his existence become almost universal? —Basanta Borah, BASEL, SWITZERLAND

I don't claim that God doesn't exist. God is the name people give to the reason we are here. But I think that reason is the laws of physics rather than someone with whom one can have a personal relationship. An impersonal God.

- Stephen Hawking, 10 Questions for Stephen Hawking, Time Magazine, November 15th 2010, Read here

I actually thought Stephen Hawking was an atheist. Well, he's not. By his own admission, he doesn't question the existence of God. He questions the existence of a personal God with whom we can have a relationship. This makes sense because anyone who has that much understanding of Physics cannot deny that there is a power greater than all of us. His problem is that he expects to understand the nature of a relationship with God using his head. Relationships are built from the heart. Like the writer states in our main scripture for today, it's impossible to understand why God would consider a relationship with mankind. The same God behind the laws of Physics could not possibly care that much about me.

Psalm 53:1(KJV) - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Atheists are fools and should be treated as such - Anonymous

The least I can say is that based on the definition of a fool in Psalm 53:1, I won't call Stephen Hawking a fool. He is not a fool, he is just on a journey toward truth. However, the people who follow his teachings and use it as the foundation for their atheistic beliefs are in a different category. In his search, Hawking has stopped short of admitting that nothing he's seen or discovered has disproven God's existence but He just doesn't understand the personal nature of God which is fine. There is nothing wrong with admitting that you don't understand something. I do that all the time. If I don't know, I don't know. He doesn't know how God could be personal which is not a result of his factual research and is not scientific in nature but is merely his way of saying, he doesn't understand what we understand.

I have a few theories that can explain why a man of his great intelligence would not believe in a personal God.

1 He doesn't have a personal relationship with God so claiming that we can't have a personal relationship with God makes him feel better about himself.

2 He probably knows the truth and is offended because God has not done what he wanted God to do for him. People who want something and don't get it suffer from "fox and sour grapes" syndrome. If you can't get the grapes they suddenly become sour.

3 He cannot wrap his mind around the nature of God. Of course not. Neither can we. That's why He is God and we're not.

Romans 1:18-22(NLT) - But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.
Oh how the wise have become foolish! They have no excuse!

Faith Science - Bold as a Lion

Bold as a Lion

Isaiah 61:1-3(KJV) - The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

It's 2:30 AM EST and I'm up writing this blog right now. I had an interesting dream last night that has left an indelible mark on my mind and heart. Let me share with you the salient points;

"I kept this lion as a pet for some time. It was extremely disciplined and fit nicely into my daily routine. One day, I put it on a leash and took it out into the streets for a walk. I didn't reach too far from the house before I started drawing some serious attention. Dogs were barking, people were staring and commotion was building. Suddenly, I released it, turned around and returned home. I could hear the mayhem in the background but I didn't care. The time had come."

I awoke and The Lord spoke to me.

Proverbs 28:1(NIV) - The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Acts 4:13(NKJV) - Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:31(NIV) - After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

The lion represents the anointing on my life. I've kept it "domesticated" for some time. I've attracted limited attention because of it as I've displayed it on a limited level. However, it's time for me to stop holding it back. God wants me to let it go free and whatever happens, happens. The Holy Spirit, who is the source of the anointing, is the source of my boldness. I'm not afraid. I'm taking this message to world and The Lord will protect me.

Like Jesus, today I stand in the "temple" and declare, "The Spirit of The Lord is upon me and He's anointed me to teach Faith Science - Where Faith and The Scientific Method Collide. It will set many people free who've been held in mental bondage due to ignorance and intimidation from those with a secular agenda."

Psalm 53:1(NLT) - Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!

Atheists are fools and should be treated as such. - Anonymous

The Thin Line Between Faith and Science

The Thin Line Between Faith and Science

Daniel 1:4(KJV) - Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

Let me share with you what's on my heart this morning. I just finished reviewing the proof of my new book, "Faith Science - Where Faith and the Scientific Method Collide". Early in the book I look at cutting edge scientific phenomena like "Stem Cells and Cloning", "Antimatter", "Synthetic Life" and "Higgs Boson" through the eyes of faith. Since I finished writing the book, God has opened my eyes to even more mind boggling information that's publicly available.

Now I'm reading a book called, "Immortality" by Dr Joel Wallach. It's the practical equivalent to my first book, "I Curse Death." What we have spent years in The Church praying and casting out devils for could have been solved by simple changes in our diets or supplementation. So many diseases that have caused great pain and overflowed prayer hot-lines are the result of simple mineral deficiencies.

I have talked in tongues, studied great mysteries and delved into the hidden wisdom of scripture in search of deep understanding and now God is showing me some simple answers to my complicated questions. He talks to me in layman's terms. You want to be healed? Eat this and not that. Take this supplement. Go to sleep. Stop stressing yourself out. Drink this tea. Drink more water. It's no rocket science.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29(KJV) - But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

A few weeks ago I went to New York for the weekend. By the end of the trip I had developed sharp muscle spasms in my back that restricted movement on my left side. While there I lay hands on myself and I went up in the prayer line on Sunday morning but there was limited release. I returned home to Atlanta with the pain and woke up on Tuesday with my back muscles aching. I considered cancelling my arm workout that day so that I wouldn't aggravate it. Now here's where things got interesting.

I got to work and had an irresistible urge to drink black tea because I knew it would give me energy. I drank the black tea and instantly the pain was gone. It was so dramatic that I knew something happened. I did some research on the relationship between black tea and the relief of muscle pains and amazingly, there were several articles on the topic. God told me that He healed me but He wanted to show me that sometimes my healing will come in the form of some natural instructions. If they are followed it will stimulate my own body to heal itself.

I have another example. As a teenager in high school I cut off the tip of my left thumb while chopping sugar cane. I went to the emergency room for treatment. My biggest fear was that I would have to live with a deformed thumb because the missing piece was nowhere to be found and even if we found it, they couldn't do anything with it. They treated the wound and hoped for the best. My family prayed and within months the thumb grew back to normal. Now that's what faith can do.

Now here's what science can do. I read several articles about people losing the tips of their fingers also. None of them openly said they trusted God. However, there is this breakthrough new formula that causes limbs to grow back. When they received treatment with the formula it stimulated the stem cells in their damaged joint and their fingers grew back. Fifteen years ago when the tip of my finger was cut off all we could do was speak The Word and it happened. Now, they have that scientific breakthrough.

Luke 10:21(KJV) - In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

When I start my book tour next year I'll be teaching on Faith Science. One of the topics will definitely be The Thin Line Between Faith and Science. Sometimes, you can pray for something and The Lord will cause a creative miracle on the spot. Limbs will grow back. Muscle spasms will be healed. Cancer will disappear. Other times, The Lord will give you the wisdom to use a natural remedy and it will fix the problem forever. Both options come from God because He is behind both faith and science.

What is it that you're believing God for today? Is it something that needs to materialize out of the spirit realm or would a remarkable idea suffice? Does God need to cause a bag of money to appear out of thin air or can He give you a business idea? Does God need to create a man or woman from the dust or can He order your steps to meet someone? Think about it! It doesn't matter how He does what He does, just be open to following His instructions. Your outrageous miracle might be in your obedience to the most simple instructions.

Science versus Faith

Faith Science - Cover Option #1

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the scientific method as, “principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.”

In addition, it gives the following four applicable definitions of science:

1. The state of knowing: knowledge as distinguished from ignorance or misunderstanding

2. a) A department of systematized knowledge as an object of study

b) Something (as a sport or technique) that may be studied or learned like systematized knowledge

3. a) Knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through the scientific method

b) Such knowledge or such a system of knowledge concerned with the physical world and its phenomena: natural science

4. A system or method reconciling practical ends with scientific laws

The foundational principles of science have enabled humanity to understand the world around us. Through the systematic pursuit of knowledge, the collection of data, and subsequent testing of formulated hypotheses, we have established “definitive” conclusions about ourselves and what can be perceived. Hence, established scientific laws must either be proven inconsistent, using the scientific method or fully accepted. In other words, you have two options: beat them or join them.

By definition, other than the natural sciences, science as a whole is an approach to gaining understanding. It is systematic and objective so that the conclusions can be reproduced if the same steps are followed under similar conditions.

In Faith Science, we will approach faith using the scientific method so that the conclusions drawn in the Bible can be reproduced in our personal lives. We will begin by drawing a connection between certain scientific phenomena and foundational biblical principles in order to make them easier to comprehend. Then we will prove them with case studies.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV

Scientists who think that spiritual laws are inherently inaccurate are themselves, inaccurate. The Bible refers to them as carnal thinkers who will never understand spiritual things. No human mind on its own is able to perceive the things of God. So even though they may be experts at natural things, without Christ, they are unskilled in spiritual things. Thus, even the greatest scientists on their own will never be able to bridge the gap between scientific and spiritual laws.

Therefore, it’s easy to understand that just the mention of the word faith sends shivers down the spines of secular scientists. They consider Christianity foolish and don’t see how it’s possible for intelligent people to believe what’s written in the Bible. What many of them really have are preconceived notions that instantly reject anything that contradicts what they believe. So proving the viability of faith to them on a purely academic level will be impossible regardless of the evidence provided.

But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:15-16 KJV

The Bible says that he who is spiritual comprehends all things while he who is natural is not qualified to speak on spiritual things. The two systems, though they exist simultaneously, are not equal. Spiritual laws are inherently superior to natural laws because all that is natural came from that which is spiritual. I will prove this by Scripture later in the book. However, since God is behind both systems, unless it’s necessary for carrying out his purpose, they shouldn’t inherently contradict. Here are a few instances when they did contradict and spiritual laws triumphed.

Jesus and the Apostle Peter broke the law of gravity when they walked on water in Matthew 14:25-29. Elijah broke natural laws when he stopped rain from falling using words in 1 Kings 17 and then started it again in 1 Kings 18. He also broke natural laws when he called fire out of heaven several times in 2 Kings 1:9-14. Philip broke physical laws when he disappeared from one location and appeared in another in Acts 8:39. Paul broke natural biological and chemical laws when he was bitten by a venomous snake and nothing happened to his body in Acts 28:3-6. Like Paul said in Romans 8:2, the spiritual law of life in Christ Jesus triumphed over the law of sin and death. Though discernible, natural laws were made obsolete in specific human lives.

If you approach it with an open mind and heart, Faith Science will be a blessing to your life. Above everything else, it will change the way you see the spirit realm. Since your perspective forms the basis of your interpretation of what’s written in the Bible, you will have a renewed understanding of spiritual things. Combined with the knowledge you may already have, the systematic approach in this book will strengthen your faith. While others choose to remain limited, God can open your eyes to the possibilities of your human existence.
